EGX 2014: Shadow of Mordor

Over the years us gamers haven’t really been able to experience a LOTR game that has been as good as the movies (Personally I really enjoyed LOTR: The Return of the King). But now with the release of Shadow of Mordor (SoM), the wait is finally over!

After getting hands on experience at EGX; I have finally figured that if Assassins Creed, Far Cry and batman all somehow managed to make a baby together, this would be the result.

The combat system reminds me of the combat in batman, but better! I was able to get a different type of kill each time I encountered an Uruk in the short time I played. The fact that I could climb in this game was also a surprise to me, something I really wasn’t expecting. Again like the combat is similar to the combat in batman, the climbing is similar to the climbing in Assassins Creed, but better! Every foot that is climbed flows into the next one much better than the last. The Far Cry element that I feel in SoM is the open world game play. It felt like around every corner I would come across enemies, wildlife, plant life, strongholds, buildings etc and there is always something to do.

I for sure was not expecting to enjoy SoM as much as I did, but it has already gained a place in my top five favourite games even with only a short amount of game play.
